China News Service, Beijing, January 4 (Reporter Kan Feng) The reporter learned from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment that in 2021, the annual average concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in Beijing’s atmospheric environment will drop to 33 micrograms/m3, PM2 .5 and ozone reached the standard simultaneously. So far, Beijing’s air quality has fully reached the standard for the first time, and air pollution control has achieved a milestone breakthrough.

Since the city has concentrated on the prevention and control of air pollution, the concentration of major air pollutants has been continuously reduced while the economy and society have developed rapidly. Sulfur dioxide has been steadily reaching the standard since 2004, and the inhalable particulate matter (PM10) and nitrogen dioxide have continued to reach the standard since 2019.

In 2021, the annual average concentration of PM2.5 and ozone concentration in Beijing will be 33 micrograms/m3 and 149 micrograms/m3, respectively, reaching the national secondary standards for the first time; the annual average concentrations of PM10, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide are 55 micrograms respectively /M3, 26μg/m3, 3μg/m3, and the carbon monoxide concentration is 1.1 mg/m3, all of which have reached the national secondary standard stably for many years. Various air pollutants have achieved coordinated improvement, and Beijing’s air quality has fully reached the standard for the first time.

According to reports, in 2021, the number of fine days in Beijing will reach 288, accounting for 78.9%, close to 80%; an increase of 112 days from 2013, which is equivalent to nearly 4 months longer than 2013. Among them, the number of first-class days in 2021 is 114 days, which is an increase of 73 days compared with 2013. The blue sky background is purer and the gold content is more abundant.

While the blue sky has increased significantly, the number of days of heavy pollution has decreased significantly, and the frequency, peak concentration, and duration have all decreased significantly. There will be 8 days of heavy pollution in 2021, 50 days less than in 2013, a drop of 86.2%. Heavy pollution of PM2.5 in summer and autumn is basically eliminated.

According to the Beijing Bureau of Ecology and Environment, in 2021, the annual average PM2.5 concentration in Beijing will reach the standard for the first time, a decrease of 63.1% compared to 2013, an average annual decrease of 7.9%, far exceeding the decrease in cities in developed countries over the same period. In terms of spatial distribution, it has changed from “high in the south and low in the north” to “evenly convergent in each district”. The concentration gap between the north and the south has dropped from 63 μg/m3 in 2013 to 16 μg/m3 in 2021, and the overall concentration in each region of the city has dropped.
