In Valledupar they will charge for water waste

The Valledupar Public Services Company, Emdupar, announced that it will make additional charges to users who waste water due to the drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

This decision was executed under resolution UAE-CRA 039 of 2024 issued by the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory and the CRA Drinking Water and Basic Sanitation Regulation Commission.

“The level of excessive consumption is taken into account according to the thermal floor where the public home water service is provided; In Valledupar, residential users who consume more than 32 cubic meters will be additionally charged the value of the rate per cubic meter of water,” the statement reads.

The company’s head of billing, Miguel Francisco Maestre, gave details about the consumption of the service and the cubic meters to take into account.

“If a residential user has a consumption of 40 cubic meters, these are billed normally, taking into account that in the municipality of Valledupar the disincentive is activated from 32 cubic meters, and the current cubic meter rate will be charged for each additional cubic meter,” the official explained.

He added: “In this specific case, the additional charge will be applied to 8 cubic meters. The purpose is to encourage the rational and efficient use of water, among other solutions proposed by the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory.”
