Indigenous people gave free passage to drivers traveling through the ‘Los Cauchos toll’

Indigenous people on the Neiva-Campoalegre road, at the Los Cauchos Toll, prevented the concessionaire from making the respective charge, allowing vehicles to travel without paying. This is in protest against the construction of a new toll in Huila.

The Regional Indigenous Council of Huila spoke about the pedagogical Regional Minga in the “Puente El Pescador resistance space”, located in the municipality of Hobo. They also expressed a strong rejection of the construction of the toll called Guasimillas, planned on route 45, south of Huila: «Our caretakers of the territory teach those who travel on the Hobo – Gigante roadplace where they will build the new toll for Huila.

“To the sectors and social movements of the department and the south of the country, We invite you to join the rejection of the construction of these new fare collection systems on the roads of the department of Huila. Likewise, we provide a piece of peace of mind to those who travel through this important road corridor,” they added.

Since their arrival at the site on April 2, the indigenous community has raised its voice in a resounding “no” to the construction of more tolls and new fare collection systems on the roads of the department of Huila.”

“We urge the departmental government to take the necessary steps before the National Highway Institute -INVIAS, for the non-construction of more tolls in the department of Huila,” highlighted the Regional Indigenous Council of Huila -CRICHU. During the consultation table of the Departmental Development Plan “for a Huila Grande 2024-2027”, they requested the support of the government of the department of Huila and the competent control organizations to guarantee open and free vehicular passage at the “Los Cauchos” Toll, located on the Route 45 Concessionaire at the height of the municipalities of Neiva and Campoalegre with Jurisdiction in the Municipality of Rivera.
