Israel closes key border crossing into Gaza after shelling

The army said on Sunday that ten projectiles were fired from an area near the city of Rafah in the direction of the Kerem Shalom crossing. Therefore, the currently most important border crossing for trucks carrying humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip has been closed for the time being.

The military wing of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas had previously claimed responsibility for rocket attacks on the Israeli border crossing at Kerem Shalom on Sunday. The target was Israeli troops, according to a statement from the Kassam Brigades. The crossing is used to import humanitarian aid supplies into the Gaza Strip, where, according to international aid organizations, there is hunger among the population.

According to the Israeli army, there was a rocket alarm in the town of Kerem Shalom, near the border with the Gaza Strip. The news site ynet wrote that around ten rockets were fired at Kerem Shalom from the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. There were reports of several injuries.
