Istat: fixed-term employees are growing, exceeding three million

Temporary workers are growing and exceeding three million: this is what emerges from the Istat report on the labor market in the third quarter of 2021 according to which in the period considered they were 3,003,000 with an increase of 2.3% on the previous quarter and 13, 1% on the same quarter of 2020.

In the third quarter of 2021, total employees amounted to 22,919,000 (+ 0.5% on the previous quarter, + 2.2% on the same period of 2020), while there were 17,978,000 employees, an increase of 0.9% on a cyclical basis and 3.3% on a trend basis. Independents are still down at 4,942,000.

Hours worked: + 4.1% on 2020

In addition, in the third quarter of 2021, labor input (measured by hours worked) increased by 1.4% compared to the previous quarter and by 4.1% compared to the third quarter of 2020. Istat emphasizes that GDP is increased by 2.6% in economic terms and by 3.9% in trend terms.

Vacancies: highest level since 2016

Vacancies are growing and the rate in the third quarter of 2021 equal to 2.0%, although showing a slowdown in growth (+0.2 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2021), remains at levels never recorded since 2016 (starting year of the series).

Bonomi: confirms that the problem of companies is not firing

“We are very happy with these data, which confirm what we had always said since the discussion on the release of layoffs: the problem of Italian companies today is finding professional profiles and hiring, not firing” said the president of Confindustria Carlo Bonomi at the ‘arrival in Genoa at the public assembly of Confindustria.
