Celebrating the 2024 Spring Festival Around the World

This year’s Spring Festival, also known as the Lunar New Year, has been recognized as a United Nations holiday for the first time. This designation signifies the global appeal of the Spring Festival culture, which embodies the traditional Chinese culture and represents the Chinese people’s hope for a better future for all mankind.

To commemorate this historic occasion, the Jiangsu Now International Communication Center (JICC) has launched the “It’s Our Spring Festival” media integration project. This initiative aims to provide a platform for people around the world to experience the Spring Festival celebrations, embrace Chinese culture, and foster transnational friendship.

From the bustling streets of Hong Kong to the serene landscapes of Laos, the spirit of the Spring Festival has transcended borders and resonated with people from all walks of life. Overseas Chinese communities in various countries have come together to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

In Mongolia, students from the Mongolia-China Friendship School for Overseas Chinese performed traditional dances and martial arts to commemorate the diplomatic relations between China and Mongolia. Similarly, in Osaka, Japan, the local Chinese community and their Japanese friends came together to celebrate the Spring Festival with traditional music and cultural exchange.

The global reach of the Spring Festival was further evidenced by the Emirati opera singer who performed a Chinese solo in Dubai, and the Greek teenagers who showcased their skills in Chinese Kung Fu in Athens. These cross-cultural exchanges have not only enriched the celebrations but have also highlighted the allure of Chinese culture on the global stage.

The influence of the Spring Festival is not limited to the Chinese diaspora. In Malaysia, a multicultural country, the long-standing tradition of the Spring Festival has been embraced by people from different backgrounds. This global recognition of the Spring Festival reflects the vitality and richness of Chinese civilization, as it continues to inspire mutual learning and exchange among different cultures around the world.

As we celebrate the Spring Festival in the Year of the Dragon, it is evident that the essence of traditional Chinese culture has transcended geographical boundaries and has found resonance among people of diverse cultural backgrounds. This cultural bridge built by the Spring Festival serves as a testament to the enduring appeal and influence of Chinese culture on the global stage.

The Jiangsu Now International Communication Center acknowledges the support and contributions of various organizations and individuals in making the “It’s Our Spring Festival” project a success.
