After six years, a new Ordo virginum (Order of Virgins) will be ordained in the cathedral of Ivrea. Bishop Edoardo Aldo Cerrato Vescovo is in fact called to consecrate Valentina Gili Borghet, 40, of Ivrea, teacher at the institute 25 Aprile in Cuorgnè, engaged in the Amici di Fruttuaria Association and in the groups of readers and singers in the parish of San Benigno Canavese . These interests of hers in the study of the Abbey of Fruttuaria and in parish services have contributed to gradually bringing Valentina Gili Borghet closer to her choice of dedicating herself even more intensely to the service of the Canavese church by entering the Ordo virginum. On the eve of her consecration, which will take place on Saturday 5 June at 10, in the cathedral of Ivrea, Valentina Gili Borghet explained in a long interview granted to the diocesan newspaper The popular awakening his choice. The Ordo virginum is the oldest form of female consecration, dating back to the first centuries of Christianity, and was restored in 1970 by Paul VI following the second Vatican Council. The first consecrated woman of this order in the diocese of Ivrea, six years ago, was Monica Ferrero.

Valentina Gili Borghet said she was struck by the story of Monica Ferrero and after a period of reflection she made the decision to take the path of church service but, as foreseen by the Ordo virginum, remaining to live in her own daily context . Her spiritual path, as she herself explained, took a turn in 2012 when she was working on her master’s thesis in medieval art history dealing with the Abbey of Fruttuaria, where she was already a volunteer for visits to the archaeological path. For the thesis he read “Customs of Fruttuaria”, an eleventh century text on the daily life of the monastery. From there, she began a journey that led her to question herself about her own vocation.

The consecration ceremony scheduled for Saturday is suggestive. Valentina Gili Borghet will make her promise and will receive from the bishop of Ivrea the white tunic, the wedding ring with the church and the book of the liturgy of the hours, which from that moment will accompany her in her ecclesial activities.
