JOH sends letter prior to his trial

Former President of Honduras maintains innocence ahead of trial in letter to Honduran people

In a letter to the Honduran people, former president Juan Orlando Hernández reaffirmed his innocence and claimed to be a victim of revenge and conspiracy. The letter was revealed by his wife, Ana García de Hernández, just one day before his trial on February 20th in the Southern Court of New York.

Hernández argued that the accusations against him are part of a plot orchestrated by his political enemies and organized crime groups. He also stressed his track record in fighting drug trafficking and organized crime, claiming that the charges against him contradict the evidence of his actions.

The former president urged Hondurans to join him in defending what he referred to as the truth, alleging that the accusations against him were a result of his fight against drug traffickers and organized crime that were destroying Honduras. He also claimed that the accusations served political agendas in both Honduras and the United States.

While expressing confidence that justice will prevail, Hernández also highlighted a number of concerns regarding his case, including alleged efforts to block his family from collecting funds to pay for his defense expenses. He concluded the letter by asking for prayers and support as he faced the upcoming trial.

The letter was released just two years after Hernández was first detained in the United States and highlights the intense legal and geopolitical battle he has faced since then.

As the trial date approaches, the letter is likely to intensify public debate and attention on the legal proceedings against the former president.
