Sudanese Net:
The South Sudanese government has disowned southern fighters captured while fighting alongside the Rapid Support militia in Sudan, saying they are “money seekers” and should face trial according to Sudanese law.
The Minister of National Information of the Government of South Sudan, Michael Makuei, said in press statements after the Cabinet meeting on Friday, March 15, 2024, that the detainees from South Sudan are not under the control of the government, and he added, “These are looking for wealth, because these days you are paid to go and fight.” “We are mercenaries, so we don’t know what they are doing there.”
The Sudanese army had announced the capture of “14” southerners after retaking the headquarters of the Radio and Television Corporation on March 12, 2024, and the individuals were arrested on charges of fighting alongside the Rapid Support militia.
“Once the Sudanese government arrests them, they must be tried according to the provisions of this law, and we cannot go to protect them because we did not authorize them to behave in this way,” Makoy said.
