The accusations against a female journalist from Peshawar regarding the summary of buying a Fortuner car for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Advisor on Social Welfare Mashal Yousafzai have been discussed on social networking sites for the past few days.

Mashal Yousafzai, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) accused Nadia Sabohi, a senior reporter of Geo News in Peshawar, that the journalist had spread the news of the summary of buying Fortuner with the intention of propaganda.

He wrote in his post that ‘Nadia Sabohi has started the propaganda because she demanded money and was denied by me.’

Mashal Yousafzai wrote: ‘Jio journalist Nadia demanded monthly money, which I refused saying that this is Imran Khan’s government, if the envelope doesn’t work here, then started regular propaganda.’

In his tweet, he also shared screenshots of WhatsApp messages with Nadia Sabohi, making the personal mobile number of the female journalist public.

What is the matter?

Regarding Mashal Yousafzai, this news was aired on various private TV news channels including Geo News last day that the summary of buying a Toyota Fortuner worth 17 million for the Chief Minister’s Advisor has been sent to the Chief Executive of the province.

In the same summary there was also a mention of buying a ‘Kia’ support vehicle for the Secretary Social Welfare and the signature of the Secretary Social Welfare is also present on this document.

Immediately after the news appeared on the media, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said in a statement that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has rejected the summary of the purchase of vehicles.

This statement was not issued from the offices of the Chief Minister but on the social media accounts of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, there was no mention of the proposal to buy a car for Mashal Yousafzai, but simply the word ‘minister’ was used.
A senior official of the Social Welfare Department, on condition of anonymity, told Independent Urdu that the summary of purchase of vehicles for Mashal Yousafzai and Secretary Social Welfare was prepared in the department about a month ago on the instructions of a female adviser.

He said that the summary remained in the department, but a few days ago the document was sent to Mashal Yousafzai’s office.

According to the official, ‘this summary has not been sent from Mashal Yousafzai’s office to the Chief Minister’s House, nor has it returned from Mashal’s office back to the relevant office in the department.’

When an official of the Chief Minister’s House was spoken to about this matter, he told Independent Urdu on condition of anonymity that the summary has not been sent to the Chief Minister’s House and neither has the Chief Minister issued any statement in this regard. .

He further said, ‘The statement from the Chief Minister’s House was not issued because the summary was not given to us. Therefore, there is no justification for issuing a statement on it.’

The statement from PTI’s social media accounts has been released without asking and no official statement or stand has been issued by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on the matter, the Chief Minister’s House official said.

When Independent Urdu contacted Mashal Yousafzai on this issue, he said that no summary has been sent to the Chief Minister.

He said it was just ‘fake propaganda’ and the summary was not sent.

When he was asked that if the summary is prepared without your permission, then you will conduct an inquiry against the concerned employee, his reply was, ‘There is no such summary, so how to start an inquiry.’

Allegations against the journalist

Mashal Yousafzai has accused Geo News journalist Nadia Sabohi of asking for money but has not provided any evidence in this regard.

Khyber Union of Journalists, the representative organization of journalists of Peshawar, has announced to boycott the coverage of the programs of provincial ministers including Mashal Yousafzai, while condemning the allegations made by Mashal on Nadia Sabuhi.

In a statement issued by the Peshawar Press Club, it was said that Mashal Yousafzai should apologize to the concerned journalist and the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should take notice of these allegations.

Regarding the allegations, Nadia Sabohi told Independent Urdu that she had received this news before Eid and she contacted Mashal to find out her position, and she said, ‘You are not familiar with journalism.’
