[서울=뉴시스] Reporter Hong Se-hee = The Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA) announced on the 22nd that it will establish and implement a comprehensive education and training plan for 2024 to strengthen the expertise of employees.

The Corporation has established and is operating a support program to acquire major certifications to secure safety management expertise for all employees.

Among these, the Ship Safety Manager Support Program, a professional certification for safety management in the maritime sector, attracted dozens of applicants to select 12 people last month.

An official from the corporation said, “There is a growing consensus within the organization that the corporation’s professional capabilities must be increased in preparation for changes in the policy environment, such as the government’s establishment of a safety and health system for fishing boats.” A weather forecaster training course is also being promoted to strengthen expertise in managing coastal passenger ship safety operations.

The Corporation has also established cross-training between higher-level positions and will operate it starting next month. This is a process to train integrated managers for the corporation’s ship inspection positions and coastal passenger ship operation management positions. The goal is to increase mutual business understanding and create flexibility and harmonious synergy in the organizational culture.

In addition, we strive to provide customized education and training for each employee’s life cycle. Starting this year, the qualifications for master’s and doctoral degree acquisition have been lowered, and the support funds and degree acquisition deadlines have been expanded to expand opportunities for employees’ self-development. We plan to support the acquisition of degrees in various fields, including eco-friendly ships, maritime safety policy, and international cooperation.

We plan to provide a job change support program in connection with Korea Polytechnic University for employees subject to the wage peak system.
