[서울=뉴시스]Reporter Gyeongnam Ahn = ‘Cabbage Boy’ Lee Sang-ho (Nexen) won the International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup gold medal for the first time in two years.

Lee Sang-ho won the 2023-2024 FIS Snowboard World Cup Alpine Men’s Parallel Slalom final held in Pamporovo, Bulgaria on the 21st (local time), beating Andreas Frommeger (Austria) by 0.08 seconds.

Lee Sang-ho, who ranked 4th in the parallel slalom held at the same location the day before, his best this season, won the World Cup gold medal two years and one month after winning the parallel giant slalom victory in the Russian competition in December 2021.

Lee Sang-ho is a Korean snowboarder who won a silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

He is from Sabuk, Gangwon-do, and is called ‘Cabbage Boy’ because he first went snowboarding on a sledding slope that had been converted into a cabbage field in the highlands when he was in elementary school.

Lee Sang-ho, who passed the preliminary round in 4th place, beat Ben Heldman (Canada) by 0.14 seconds in the round of 16, and then defeated Mirco Felicetti (Italy), who failed to cross the finish line, in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, he overpowered Cody Winters (USA) by 1.02 seconds and then defeated Frommeger in the finals to win the gold medal.

Lee Sang-ho won a silver medal in the parallel giant slalom at the Turkye Games in March 2017 and became the first Korean athlete to reach the FIS World Cup podium.

Then, in the Russian competition in December 2021, he became the first Korean player to win a FIS World Cup gold medal, and with this win, he became the first Korean player to win two gold medals at the FIS World Cup.
