A lightning strike on a beach in southeastern Brazil killed a woman on Saturday. Three of her family members were seriously injured but are in a stable condition.

Lightning struck the beach of Vila Caicara in Praia Grande, São Paulo state. In addition to the four family members, four other people were also affected, but not seriously.

Southeastern Brazil is being hit by heavy rain and strong winds, causing landslides and flooding in several places. Three deaths occurred in the state of São Paulo in the past 24 hours: a man was killed when his car was swept away by floodwaters in Sorocaba and two women were trapped in their car in Limeira and did not survive.

Further south, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, a storm already claimed two lives on Tuesday. Last week, bad weather also caused two fatalities in the city of São Paulo. Thousands of families were also without power there for at least three days.
