During his 53rd “Connected with Ernesto” program, broadcast from the Maturín Sports Center, the president reiterated his determination to recover the sports infrastructure of the Monagas state for the golden generation of athletes that is formed in the different clubs and as a legacy of the Revolution for the youth.

The regional president advanced the progress of the athletics track whose main surface measures 5,840 square meters that are being recovered under the standards of the World Athletics for the practice of Olympic sports. The track includes the jumping, athletics, warm-up and javelin areas.

He also highlighted the 80 percent progress of the work in the weightlifting gym, an area of ​​190 square meters that will be delivered with first-class finishes and fully equipped for the use and enjoyment of the weightlifters heading to the 2028 Weightlifting World Cup, whose headquarters will be Venezuela.

«Monagas stands today as a sporting power. As an athlete and sports lover, I am pleased with the works we are building for our young people. We thank President Nicolás Maduro once again for approving resources for this important work (the athletics track),” said the Governor.

Likewise, Luna recalled that in 2023 Monagas stood out with 455 medals in different disciplines with a high percentage in weightlifting and took the opportunity to congratulate the athletes of the entity who participated in the first Bolivarian Youth Games in April, held in Sucre. , Bolivia.

In these international games, Monagas won eight medals, of which five were in weightlifting. Ronaldo Montoya and Ángel Rodríguez won gold medals, Wiliandrys Caldera won the silver medal, while Roxines Polanco and Jesús Bouttó won bronze in the same discipline. Other champions were Mariángel Gallardo, who won gold in wrestling; Rosmaris León, in Basque pelota, and Ottainys Febres won silver in the discus throw.

Changing everything in sport

During the event, José “Cheo” Mata Zerpa, a coach with extensive experience, spoke some emotional words of gratitude to the Revolution for the important transformation being made to the Maturín Sports Center.

Mata thanked the recent rehabilitation of the dining room for high-performance athletes that guarantees them balanced nutrition. He also valued the construction of new spaces such as the set of fields on the urban beach as transcendental for sport in Monagas, in addition to the constant support of the regional government for athletes in each of their competitions.

Meanwhile, Miguel Fuentes, director of the Monagas State Sports Institute (Indem), reiterated that Monagas was nominated as the host or sub-host of the twenty-second edition of the National Youth Games since the state currently has one of the best sports infrastructures. from the interior of the country.

For the athletes sector, athletes Rosmaris León and Ángel Rodríguez participated in the program, who thanked the support received by the Bolivarian Government.

The Governor closed the segment dedicated to sports in his program with a recount of the third minor soccer tournament “Ciudad de Maturín”, which culminated on May 3 with the participation of 1,200 athletes from 29 clubs in the states of Monagas, Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Sucre, Delta Amacuro and Nueva Esparta.
