by admin

The main football reference in El Salvador, Jorge ‘Mágico’ González, thanked on Wednesday the congratulations he received for his 66th birthday and assured that he will continue to enjoy watching Cádiz play, the Spanish team in which he played in two stages (1982- 1984 and 1986-1991) and marked his life.

“A special and beautiful joy for realizing it and wanting to thank you for those congratulations that are being sent to me because the old man turns another year,” said ‘Mágico’ in a short video shared by Cádiz on their X account.

The former soccer player assured: “We are going to continue trying to do things as best as possible, enjoying our Cádiz as it always should be.”

He also made reference, apparently, to the fragile position that Cádiz currently occupies in the Spanish league, in relegation positions, and said that he believes in their chances of permanence.

«In the situation we are in right now, well, I choose to believe, of course. With God, Cádiz », he concluded.

The Cádiz club and the Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (FAS), in which he also played, congratulated ‘Mágico’ on his birthday and remembered González’s ingenuity and exploits on the fields.

This year’s celebration coincides with a press conference that authorities from the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES) and representatives of Cádiz plan to hold at a hotel in San Salvador to report on an activity to honor ‘Mágico’ González.

‘Mágico’, who in the 1984-1985 season played one part for Real Valladolid and the other for Cádiz, participated in 203 matches in Spanish football, in which he scored 60 goals.

During his time as a footballer, González acquired the status of a myth among the Cádiz fans and in total six seasons in the Spanish First Division and two in the Second.

In July 2018, González returned to Cádiz, seventeen years after his last visit to the city, to be honored as part of his 60th birthday.

The legendary former player was feted at a reception at the Cádiz City Hall, played a friendly match and was part of the presentation, at the Carranza stadium, of the club’s kits for the 2018-2019 season.

The Cádiz club decided that one of the entrances to the Ramón de Carranza stadium would be named after the Salvadoran.
