UDINE. Manuela Di Centa, the Carnic Olympic and world cross-country ski champion, is the new consultant to the Minister of Tourism Garavaglia.
“Manu”, the unforgotten protagonist of many victories on narrow skis in the 1990s, has been entrusted with the powers of sport and the mountains. Two sectors that she knows perfectly, having been a top-level sportswoman and having been born and lived between peaks and valleys.
The sports manager (she was also a deputy between 2006 and 2013 with Forza Italia) says she is enthusiastic about the job, which took her by surprise.
«I accepted very gladly, with great emotion – he says -. Sport has never been networked with the strength of organized tourism.
This is a first major goal, to unite the two dimensions, tourism to all that is the world of sport, in particular with events, large and small. A virtuous circle is created, a positive message is conveyed thanks to the event that is hosted in a territory ».
The champion, to combine mountains and sport in a tourist key, gives an example that everyone in Friuli knows well, that of the Zoncolan.
«Everyone is crazy about this climb that is making cycling history – he explains -, it is the demonstration of how people are encouraged to go to that place because, after seeing the champions at work, the cyclists come for that ride.
Ovaro, but also Paluzza, Comeglians and the neighboring villages, live thanks to that type of tourism. Those who come from outside spend on the territory, in Carnia, but also from other parts, arrive by plane in Ronchi, have the opportunity to visit other places in the region.
Here tourism must find a synergy in major events so that there is a driving force through that event, we could develop the potential much better with an institutional hat, with Enit in particular ».
Manuela Di Centa already has a time schedule in mind, as soon as the Covid situation allows it.
«I intend to meet the Tourism Councilors of the various regions – he says -, we will open the first channels of comparison. Compared to before there will be more connections, sporting events require a lot of money, we must give greater value to the investment made, both large and small.
I will try to bring as many people as possible to Italy thanks to my powers in the mountains and sports, I will do my best.
There will be an important force, in tourism and in the mountains there is a lot of work to be done, it is something new, it had never been done before. And anyway in Friuli Venezia Giulia there is not only mountains, there is also sea, we will also talk about that.
In the future outdoor tourism will go very well, we will all want to walk in the midst of nature, in Carnia as on the crater of a volcano.
