CAGLIARI. Over 65 kilos of cured meats and cheeses were confiscated by Customs Agency officials during checks at Cagliari-Elmas airport. The food was found in the luggage of non-EU travelers, from Kyrgyzstan, Morocco and the United Kingdom, but also the Philippines, Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic and did not have health certification and labeling.
“The national and EU health legislation in fact provides that, for products of animal and vegetable origin intended for human consumption, the introduction into the territory of the European Union is allowed only if such foods are accompanied by valid certification issued by the Health Authority of the country of production ”, explained by the Customs Agency.
