To announce the Consistory, Pope Francis. Twenty-one new cardinals, sixteen electors. Five Italians and among them Monsignor Miglio, former bishop of Ivrea and archbishop emeritus of Cagliari

IVREA. Among the five new Italian cardinals that Pope Francis will create in the consistories announced for August 27th there is also Monsignor Arrigo Miglio, of San Giorgio Canavese, 80 years old on July 18th, former bishop of Ivrea from 1997 to 2012 and archbishop emeritus of Cagliari. Miglio is among the three who will become cardinals over 80 years of age. The others are the former rector of the Gregorian, Father Gianfranco Ghirlanda, and Msgr. Fortunato Frezza, rectory of San Pietro. The new cardinal electors will instead be Monsignor Oscar Cantoni, bishop of Como, and Monsignor Giorgio Marengo, apostolic prefect of Ulan Bator (Mongolia).

Pope Francis himself announced the consistory after the recitation of the Regina Caeli: “Next 27 August I will hold a consistory for the appointment of new cardinals”. There will be 21 new cardinals, sixteen will be electors. Five of the new cardinals, as mentioned, are Italians.

Here are the names of all, announced by Pope Francis: Monsignor Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments; Monsignor Lazzaro You Heung sik, Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy; Monsignor Fernando Vergez Alzaga, president of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State and president of the Governorate of the Vatican City State; Monsignor Jean-Marc Aveline, Metropolitan Archbishop of Marseille; Monsignor Peter Okpaleke, bishop of Ekwulobia (Nigeria); Monsignor Leonardo Ulrich Steiner, Metropolitan Archbishop of Manaus (Brazil); Monsignor Filipe Neri Antonio Sebastiao of Rosario Ferrao, archbishop of Goa and Damao (India); Monsignor Robert Walter McElroy, bishop of San Diego (USA); Monsignor Virgilio Do Carmo Da Silva, archbishop of Dili (East Timor); Monsignor Oscar Cantoni, bishop of Como; Monsignor Anthony Poola, archbishop of Hyderabad (India); Monsignor Paulo Cezar Costa, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Brasilia (Brazil); Monsignor Richard Kuuia Baawobr M.
