The floods have affected a total of around 220,000 people, mainly in the capital Nairobi. 72 people are still missing. Kenya’s Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered everyone living near major watercourses or 178 reservoirs or reservoirs that are close to full to evacuate.

Small bright spot: Hurricane Hidaya, which hit Kenya and neighboring Tanzania on Saturday, did not cause additional damage or casualties. The hurricane lost strength as it made landfall. But more rain is forecast in the coming days. The rainy season is intensified this year by the El Nino weather phenomenon.

Floods are also being experienced elsewhere in the region. In Burundi, the death toll stands at around thirty people, and deaths have also been reported in countries such as Ethiopia, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda.
