Beijing Launches Nearly a Thousand Reading Cultural Activities During Spring Festival
With the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon approaching, Beijing is set to launch nearly a thousand reading cultural activities to celebrate the holiday. More than 500 physical bookstores in the city are open, offering a variety of activities and events for citizens and tourists to enjoy.
The activities include the “Old Books, New Knowledge” series, Spring Festival special activities, folk cultural activities, and people-benefiting cultural activities. The city is also gearing up for a week-long book-themed New Year’s market on Wangfujing Pedestrian Street and will feature book-themed activities at the Beijing Book Building.
One of the highlights of the events is the combination of old books and temple fairs, which promotes the popularization of knowledge and the inheritance of traditional culture. The Ditan New Year Temple Fair and the Badachu New Year Cultural Temple Fair are just two of the many temple fairs featuring used book exhibitions and sales booths, cultural salons, and other public welfare activities.
Additionally, Beijing physical bookstores have prepared a variety of reading cultural activities related to Spring Festival customs, such as traditional activities like writing Spring Festival couplets, paper-cutting, and more. The Wangfujing Bookstore will offer 24-hour business hours and special activities for readers, and many other bookstores have launched activities to benefit the public.
Innovative activities such as New Year bookstore check-in, “Year of the Dragon” themed stamp collection, and “gifts for joining the group” have also been added to attract readers of all ages, including the younger generation.
Furthermore, the National Botanical Garden is hosting an orchid exhibition, showcasing more than 500 kinds of orchids and New Year’s Eve flowers.
Citizens and tourists can also visit the China Film Museum during the Spring Festival to enjoy free movie screenings and New Year folk festival activities.
