An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old were blocked by the police inside the Torre Guaceto reserve, in the Brindisi area, while they were doing motocross at high speed in the dunes of the protected oasis. The two young people were fined and the two motorbikes seized. The presence of the two was reported to the military by the staff of the consortium that manages the reserve. Checks revealed that the motorcycles both had no license plates and no insurance.
“The hope of the consortium – we read in a note – is that the outcome of the operation will be a warning to those who intend to damage Torre Guaceto by carrying out illegal and extremely harmful behavior for habitats and animals.
Just think of the already precarious state of health of the dunes due to climate change and the importance of rest for migratory birds already exhausted by migration, to understand how much damage is caused by elements that speed with very noisy motorbikes on the sand and between the lakes of the wetland where the animals try to recover their physical shape before restarting”.
