Mountaineer falls for about twenty meters and is stopped by the rope: he breaks his leg hitting the rock

PALUZZA. On the central pillar of Creta della Chianevate – Carnic Alps – along a demanding route called “The law of the witch”, a mountaineer from Rivignano di Teor fell in 1975.

Apparently the mountaineer fell while he was climbing the most difficult stretch of the route itself, the flight was about twenty meters and was stopped by the rope. The mountaineer sustained a fracture in a lower limb and other traumas impacting the rock.

He and his partner managed to abseil down to the base of the wall on their own. In fact, it was not possible to send the regional helicopter rescue on the spot, or rather, the attempt to send it was made repeatedly, but the fog prevented the approach to the wall.

The rescuers, eighteen people between Alpine Rescue (Forni Avoltri station) and the Financial Police were thus divided into two teams. One climbed to the Marinelli Refuge and then descended into the Chianevate basin and the other climbed from the side of Casera Collinetta.

The injured man was reached, embarrassed and carried on his shoulders for a long time and then loaded onto the off-road vehicle by rescuers and transported along the forest track: he was then entrusted to the ambulance.
