One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon, March 23, causing a large traffic jam in east El Paso along Interstate 10 East, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).
The crash took place around 4:40 p.m. on Interstate 10 at the Lee Trevino on-ramp, with the Special Traffic Investigations Unit responding to investigate a rollover accident involving a truck. Firefighters at the scene reported that five vehicles were involved in the crash.
As a result of the accident, TxDOT announced that all lanes along Interstate 10 at Lee Trevino were closed, as well as Gateway East in the same area. The closure led to significant traffic delays and congestion in the area.
In addition to the fatality, firefighters also transported another individual with minor injuries to a local hospital. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by authorities.
