CNN – Russia Violates Polish Airspace with Cruise Missile Strike on Ukraine
Russian forces violated Polish airspace early Sunday, launching a cruise missile at targets in western Ukraine, according to the Operational Command of the Polish armed forces. Poland responded by activating aircraft to ensure the security of its airspace.
The Operational Command reported intense long-range aviation activity by Russia, targeting facilities in Ukrainian territory, specifically in the western Lviv region. Ukrainian officials confirmed that Russia had launched about 20 missiles and seven Shahed attack drones in the Lviv region near the border with Poland, causing multiple explosions in the capital city of Kiev.
While Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi noted that critical infrastructure was targeted, no hits were reported in the city itself. The Operational Command announced the activation of Polish and allied aircraft to ensure the safety of the country’s airspace, noting increased noise levels in the southeastern region.
In Kiev, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a series of explosions in the capital, with missile fragments falling in the Desnianskyi district. Residents were urged to seek shelter as air defense systems were activated. Fire and rescue units were dispatched to the affected areas.
