In 2023, just under 6,000 people will have voluntarily excluded themselves from gambling. Since the start of the ‘blacklist’ in 2004, the Gaming Commission has registered almost 50,000 voluntary exclusions. That’s what De Zondag writes.
Anyone who is included in the Excluded Persons Information System (EPIS) of the Gaming Commission can no longer enter both offline and online casinos, slot machine arcades or betting offices. People can end up in the system in different ways: including through a judicial decision or because they practice a certain profession that is automatically excluded.
People can also put themselves on the list of their own accord to combat a gambling addiction. Last year, 5,964 people did so, slightly less than the 7,278 voluntary exclusions a year earlier. Until January 1, 2024, the Gaming Commission registered a total of 49,708 voluntary exclusions.
Anyone who has put themselves on the list can also have themselves removed again and will then have access to gambling establishments again after a waiting period of three months.
