Emotional appeal from Russian soldier’s wife: “What do I get in return, a man without legs?”

by admin

An emotional appeal in Russia, where a woman asked for her husband’s return outside President Vladimir Putin’s election headquarters on Saturday. Maria Andrejeva’s husband is fighting at the front in Ukraine, but the Russian wants to see him again immediately. The Guardian writes this. Andreveja was previously arrested for her protest.

Andreyeva said: “Putin issued a decree that my husband must be there (in Ukraine). I wonder when he will decree that my husband must be at home.” Those words are not without danger. In Russia, open criticism of the invasion is prohibited. However, widows and women with partners at the front seem to have more credit with the Kremlin to make their voices heard. Some wear a white headscarf as a statement during manifestations.

A woman told Andreyeva that Russian soldiers in Ukraine were “defending the motherland” and that she “had to pray” for them. Andrejeva wanted nothing to do with that. “So what now? The Ministry of Defense has spent its money, now we have to squeeze everything out of our boys, take the last bit of life out of them? What do I get in return? A man without legs, without arms, a sick man? Don’t you know what’s happening there?”

The discussion arose during a protest by an organization of soldiers’ wives campaigning for the return of their partners. Andrejeva told reporters there that her daughter suffered from delayed speech development due to her father’s absence. “All my family’s problems can only be solved by one thing: my husband being demobilized. My daughter is a completely different child when her father comes home.”
