Niels Destadsbader responded for the first time on Instagram to the fire that reduced his loft to ashes on Friday. “Shocked and sad, but also very grateful that everyone is safe and you are so sweet,” the singer and presenter said on Instagram.
A major fire broke out on Friday afternoon at HVP Lighting, a lighting wholesaler, in Deerlijk, West Flanders. The loft of Destadsbader (35), which was located above the company, also burned down completely. The singer was present in his loft at the time of the fire, and was able to flee with his dog just in time.
Destadsbader was initially too shocked to respond, but did so on Sunday morning via social media. “It’s not the stones nor the clothes, but the memories that disappeared. Shocked and sad, but also very grateful that everyone is safe and you are so sweet,” he said on Instagram.
Crowdfunding
After the fire, fans of Destadsbader organized two crowdfunding campaigns to support the singer. The counter on Sunday morning stood at approximately 2,500 euros.
There is apparently no discussion about the cause of the fire. The public prosecutor’s office did not send a fire expert to the scene, it is assumed that the cause of the fire was unintentional and related to roofing work that was carried out in the company on Friday afternoon.
