No new players at the forward training start on snow

“The fall season clearly exceeded our expectations,” said forward coach Markus Eitl after the Red-Whites’ start to training on Monday evening. Now it’s time to lay the foundation to confirm our place in the top third of the table in the spring. SK BMD Vorwärts Steyr is currently in fourth place in the regional league at the halfway point of the season with 25 points from 15 games, only four points behind title favorite Wels and ten behind league leaders Voitsberg. The Steyrian team celebrated 1-0 home wins against these two top teams in the fall.

After the success at the Steyr Indoor Cup and City Championship, the Eitl boys now completed their first training steps in sub-zero temperatures, although not on grass, but on a hard-frozen snow field. “It was of course difficult conditions,” confirms Eitl, but the players were extremely motivated. In the coming weeks, the red and whites will lay the foundation for the spring season four times a week on artificial turf and once in the weight room. Eitl: “The existing injuries from the fall have largely been cured, some still have small aches and pains from the indoor cup, but on the whole the entire 20-man squad and the additional players from the junior camp are ready.”

First test on Friday

Anyone who had hoped for one or two new faces at the start of training for the Red and Whites was disappointed. However, the transfer window runs until the beginning of February. However, an offensive player is scheduled to complete a trial training session at Vorwärts next week. The red and white future of offensive all-rounder Oliver Filip, who celebrates his 26th birthday on Monday, is still open. The agreement with the former Red Bull talent expired at the end of the year, but the striker, who was popular with the team, was still in action for Vorwärts in the Indoor Cup victory.

Michael Lageder will only start training again in the spring. The 32-year-old defender is currently in training after cartilage surgery on his knee.

The Steyr team will play their first test match on Friday at 6 p.m. against ASK St. Valentin in Dietach, followed by a test against Perg on January 20th. The spring starts on March 3rd at the LASK Juniors.
