SECURITY.
Former President Guillermo Lasso and former Vice President Alfredo Borrero will not have presidential security abroad. The decision was made by the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa.
They withdraw the presidential security of Lasso and Borrero abroad.
He did so through Executive Decree 108, with which Noboa ordered that former presidents receive security from the Military House only in the national territory. Likewise, he specified that they will enjoy this benefit only for six months, from the end of their duties.
On November 13, 2022, a month before leaving office, then-president Guillermo Lasso issued Decree 906, which established that former presidents can access security for a period of two years.
In that text, Lasso indicated that the benefit would also be extended to his spouse, María de Lourdes Alcívar. While the former vice president and his wife would enjoy the security of the Presidential Military House for one year.
Lasso decided on that occasion that this period could be extended based on a risk report presented by the Presidential Military House.
With Decree 108 of Noboa, the regulations signed by Lasso are repealed. It came into effect this Friday, without prejudice to its publication in the Official Registry. According to the President, this is a way to “ensure that public resources are used to protect Ecuadorians./El Expreso.
