The participants in the webinar noticed that the patient should receive metformin according to the current diabetes guidelines. They questioned insulin therapy; perhaps the dose could be reduced. Alternatively, an attempt could be made to convince the patient, who has previously been less adherent in this regard, to switch from his fast-acting insulin to a basal insulin. They also questioned the use of the β-blocker metoprolol, as it can mask the sympathetic-mediated symptoms of hypoglycemia such as tremors, sweating or tachycardia.
