A 12-year-old boy denounced his father for harassing and beating his wife. Almost 6 years in prison were inflicted on the man who punched, slapped and kicked in the middle of the night to prevent the young man’s mother from sleeping. A progression of gratuitous violence that a 35-year-old housewife suffered in silence for several years out of fear.
We are at the end of August 2019 when the Novellara carabinieri intervene, at the request of the witness, then 12, in the home of a family residing in the lower Reggio area. And they bring to light a story of domestic violence that had been going on for several years. The Public Prosecutor, sharing the investigative findings of the Novellara carabinieri, had requested and obtained a restrictive measure from the investigating judge of the Reggio Emilia court. Then the procedural process with the Court of Reggio Emilia which, founding the man, now 42 years old, guilty for the crimes of abuse in the family, personal injury and sexual violence sentenced him to 6 years of imprisonment by applying the security measures of expulsion from the national territory. The conviction, confirmed on appeal and became enforceable in November, saw the criminal executions office of the Reggio prosecutor’s office issue the prison order, sent for execution to the Novellara carabinieri who arrested the man.
The 42-year-old will have to serve 5 years, 11 months and 23 days in prison. At the time of the facts, the investigations revealed how the man, since 2013, subjected his wife systematically insulted to constant physical and moral harassment, threatened even by showing her an ax, hit with fists, slaps and kicks even at night to prevent her from falling asleep. The last episode at the end of August 2019, brought to light thanks to the courage of the child who had seen his father slap and punch his mother, causing her injuries and forcing her to suffer sexual acts. Physical and moral harassment also against the child himself, forced to witness the beatings suffered by his mother and subjected himself to violence.
