On the road that connects Valledupar with La Paz, near the Salguero bridge, the community reported a feline that was on the side of the road, which was dying.
The case was brought to the attention of Corpocesar, so officials from the Center for the Care and Assessment of Wildlife went to the scene, finding that it was a lifeless ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) due to a possible run over.
In the assessment by the experts, they showed that the animal suffered a blow to the lower part of the head near the nostrils, causing possible internal bleeding.
The body was transferred to the Care Center in order to carry out an in-depth assessment and establish the specific causes of his death.
“We call on citizens to exercise caution when traveling through the department’s roads, since these sites correspond to the natural corridors through which these felines move, due to the transformation of their forests, which forces them every day more to move by crossing highways, which do not present in their entire corridor, strategies to facilitate the overlap between areas, putting them at risk of death due to being run over,” said Corpocesar.
