On April 25 in the Granda: torchlight processions, shows, meetings and screenings

“Doing politics means looking to a tomorrow without war”. So wrote Nuto Revelli in “The war of the poor” where he recounts the terrible retreat of the Alpine troops in today’s Ukraine and the Cuneo Resistance, as an ex-soldier who fought against “Germans and fascists for a new world“. That sentence about a tomorrow without wars, in a present that sees so many and near, yesterday morning he recalled to Demonte Gigi Garelli, director of the Historical Institute of the Resistance. The occasion was the ceremony to name the main square of Demonte after Nuto Revelli, recently renovated to a project by the architect Dario Castellino.

Present Marco Revelli, president of the Cuneo Foundation named after his father: «For my father Demonte has always been a strong, intense point of reference, for many reasons. The population had suffered endless mourning due to fascism and the enormous sacrifice of the Cuneense Division, so the inhabitants had given decisive support for the survival of the partisans. My father’s second life had begun in the Arma valley and in Paraloup, who had grown up for 20 years under the dictatorship. Vittorio Foa also wrote it: the Resistance was the showdown of the Italians with themselves, their vices and falls: it was also a catharsis ».

Yesterday’s in the Stura valley was one of the numerous events organized in the province for the 77th anniversary of the Liberation.

In Paraloup, the partisan village of Rittana reborn thanks to the Nuto Revelli Foundation, the event «Per le Resistenze» continues. Today the «Wecho» project on women’s communities in mountain areas throughout Europe will be presented, followed by meetings with Chandra Livia Candiani (at 2 pm) and Luca Mercalli (at 4 pm). Tomorrow at 10 there will be discussions on “young people in the mountains”, then the inauguration of a monument created by the sculptor Mario Nebiolo and at 19 the “community partisan bonfire”. Tonight the torchlight processions promoted by the partisan associations also return: in Cuneo the “Torchlight procession of Liberty” will be at 8.30 pm, departing from the Resistance Park after the oration of the researcher Chiara Colombini; in piazza Virginio the free concert of the Veeblefetzer band.

Meanwhile, tonight at 9 pm in the Cortile della Maddalena the documentary film by Guido Chiesa will be screened «A private matter. Life of Beppe Fenoglio ».
