Citizens Honor Ancestors and Martyrs Despite Rain on Tomb Sweeping Day
Despite the rain on the first day of the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday, many citizens in our city made their way to “Two Gardens and One Mountain” and the Quanzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery to worship their ancestors and pay tribute to the martyrs.
The management office of Hongfu Garden and Huangjishan Cemetery reminded citizens to make appointments in advance to enter the park for memorial services. They also emphasized that fireworks, firecrackers, gold paper, and other flammable and explosive items are strictly prohibited in the park.
Yesterday morning, at the Heroes Forest of Quanzhou Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery, parents were seen bringing their children to learn about the heroic deeds of heroes and role models. Many children carefully studied the stories of the martyrs and their sacrifices.
Parents like Mr. Pan shared the heroic stories of martyrs with their children. He recounted the story of hero Qiu Shaoyun’s sacrifice and emphasized the importance of paying homage to the martyrs on Tomb Sweeping Day. Other parents, like Ms. You, brought their children to the cemetery to show them how sacrifices from the past have contributed to the peaceful life they enjoy today.
At the Martyrs Cemetery, many students in school uniforms and red scarves, accompanied by their parents, paid their respects to the martyrs. The parents took this opportunity to narrate the heroic stories of the martyrs to their children, keeping their memories alive.
On the same day, Hongfu Garden, Huangjishan Cemetery, and Qingyuan Mountain experienced a surge in visitors for memorial services. Both parks required reservations for entry, and citizens could make reservations in advance through the WeChat official account or by phone.
To ensure safety, strict measures were in place to check for prohibited items like fireworks and firecrackers at the entrance. Staff confiscated any such items and destroyed them on the spot. Additionally, a forest fire safety inspection station was set up to prevent any potential hazards.
In Hongfu Garden, various personnel, including police, traffic police, firefighters, and medical workers, were on duty to assist the large number of visitors. Volunteers provided essential services like free water, emergency medicines, and raincoats to those attending the festival.
Overall, despite the rain and strict safety measures, citizens showed their respect and gratitude to their ancestors and martyrs on Tomb Sweeping Day, making the holiday a meaningful and memorable experience for all.
