Spring Festival Travel: Highway, Railway and Waterways Update
Today, January 28, marks the third day of Spring Festival travel in China. As millions of people journey to reunite with family and friends, the country’s transportation networks are experiencing high passenger volumes. CCTV reporters provide updates on the traffic situation across highways, railways, and waterways.
Highway Traffic:
According to CCTV reporter Tang Ying, highway traffic across the country is currently smooth, especially for medium and short distances. However, some roads have been closed in certain areas due to snowfall. It is anticipated that the first and second small peaks of return trips will occur around January 30 and February 3.
Waterways:
New water passenger routes have been opened from Ningbo, Zhejiang to Zhoushan Port, significantly improving travel time between the two locations. The travel time has been reduced from 2 hours to as little as 45 minutes. It is estimated that 90,000 passengers will utilize these routes during the Spring Festival.
Weather Forecast:
The Central Meteorological Observatory has issued a forecast indicating rainfall in the southern region over the next three days. Southern provinces such as Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Guangxi are experiencing light to moderate rains, with heavy rains expected in certain areas. Additionally, snowfall is expected in the central and eastern parts of the country. Travelers are advised to plan routes in advance and stay informed about road conditions.
Railway Passenger Flow:
Today, the national railway passenger flow remains high, with an estimated 11.85 million passengers traveling. CCTV reporter Yang Lijun reports that railway passenger flow has remained stable and high, with over 12 million passengers traveling on the previous day.
To accommodate the high passenger volumes, each railway bureau is dynamically analyzing passenger flow trends and opening additional trains in the direction of heavy passenger flow. Passengers are encouraged to pay close attention to announcements and utilize the waitlist ticket service provided by 12306 to increase their chances of securing tickets.
Railway departments have also increased transport capacity in popular directions and added more trains to accommodate the high demand. Notably, this year marks the first Spring Festival for the China-Laos Railway International Passenger Train, with an increase in cross-border seats to facilitate travel between China and Laos.
As Spring Festival travel continues, authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and efficiency of all transportation networks, allowing people to travel to their destinations to celebrate the Lunar New Year with their loved ones. (CCTV News Client)
