According to the latest study by “Cali Cómo Vamos” in the capital of Valle del Cauca, the perception of insecurity increased: one in two caleños fears going out into the street.
According to the report, the situation is critical in commune 15, the place where the highest number of homicides in the city is recorded.
In the Los Comuneros neighborhood, in 2023 there have been 19 murders, while the Mojica neighborhood registers 17 homicides.
The study defined that 44 out of 100 Cali feel a deep feeling of insecurity in the capital of the Valle.
“This implies that intensive work must be done to prevent theft, to report it and to allow and facilitate reporting, as well as to prosecute. Otherwise, we will continue to have a very high spiral of thefts and people will feel that it is not even worth reporting,” Andrés Felipe Galindo, a Security expert, told the 90 Minutes News.
For their part, from the Cali Council they demand that the annual budget for security be increased, in addition to the total operation of the surveillance camera system.
“We must tell the Police that they are not really giving results and we are very concerned that insecurity increases just in pre-election times, and the Police seem to have no type of plan in the face of these situations,” argued Ana Erazo, councilor for the Polo Democrático party. From Cali.
The mayor of CaliJorge Iván Ospina, agrees with the study in relation to the fact that citizens have a deep feeling of insecurity:
“What happens is that today we are more aware of the right to security. Of the right that a citizen has not to be violated, not to be robbed or killed, with an expansion by thousands, through the social networks of the event that occurred. Before it was not seen; now everyone has the opportunity to broadcast the malicious event live and in that sense a perception is built”, argued the mayor.
Experts ensure the most solid necessary intervention to the most needy communes in the face of this scourge.
