The Florence prosecutor’s office is notifying at this time the notice of closure of the investigations as part of the investigation into alleged irregularities in the funding of Open, the foundation active between 2012 and 2018 to financially support the rise and political activity by Matteo Renzi, first as mayor of Florence and then as secretary of the Democratic Party. Among the 11 people investigated are the former prime minister and leader of Italia Viva Matteo Renzi, the former minister and current leader of Italia Viva in the Camera Maria Elena Boschi, the deputy of the Pd Luca Lotti, the former president of the Open Foundation Alberto Bianchi and the entrepreneur Marco Carrai.

Senator Renzi and the deputies Lotti and Boschi are accused of the crime of illegal party financing, since the prosecutor, through the deputy prosecutor Luca Turco and the deputy Antonino Nastasi, considers the Open Foundation to be a part of the party. The other suspects are charged in various ways with the crimes of illegal party financing, corruption, money laundering, influence trafficking.
