FilBo expects to receive around 700,000 visitors this year and will have its doors open until May 2.

The centenary of the publication of ‘La Vorágine’, the flagship novel of the Colombian author, José Eustasio Rivera, which takes place in the Amazon, served as the starting point for the invitation to Brazil as the guest of honor of the International Book Fair of Bogotá (FilBo), which was inaugurated this April 17 with the presence of presidents Gustavo Petro Urrego and Inácio Lula da Silva.

“The importance of Brazil’s visit to the Bogotá International Book Fair is crucial at this moment. The Amazon, as a topic of dialogue and as an intercultural region, is central today in the political discussion of the world. Both President Lula and President Petro have put emphasis on that place,” said the Minister of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, Juan David Correa, who proposed that Brazil be this year’s guest country.

For this 36th version of FilBo, an exhibition and several activities will be dedicated to ‘La Vorágine’, a classic of Colombian literature that serves as a background for dialogue on current issues, such as racism and the exploitation of natural resources, of which the novel tells.

The Brazilian pavilion will offer a varied program, with classic and emerging authors, to highlight the literary, cultural and natural diversity of the neighboring country.

FilBo expects to receive around 700,000 visitors this year and will have its doors open until May 2.

On the other hand, Colombia will be the guest country of Honor at the 27th São Paulo International Book Biennial, which will be held between September 6 and 15, 2024, in the Anhembi district of that city.

The country will have a space of 300 square meters, where cultural and business meetings will be held.
