Police overpower armed man after hostage situation at Starbucks in Germany

German police have arrested a man in the city of Ulm who had taken people hostage, the police confirmed to the newspapers Südwest Presse and Neu-Ulmer Zeitung, among others. He is said to have come out with one of the hostages around 8:20 PM, when shots were fired and the hostage-taker was arrested.

According to police, the hostage situation started around 6:45 p.m. The hostage he came out with was unharmed, according to police. It is not known whether the suspect was injured in the shooting incident. The üdwest Presse previously reported that this was the case.

Police have not confirmed where the hostage situation took place or how many people were being held. Local media previously wrote that it involved four people who had been taken hostage in a Starbucks branch. The Münsterplatz, the square where the coffee shop is located, was closed and the mayor arrived on the scene.
