The Attorney General’s Office has brought charges against the former Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez Torres, for allegedly using his influence to manage the departure of his two minor children from the countryaccompanied by his father.
According to the investigation carried out by the Disciplinary Investigation Chamber, Vélez Torres would have used a telephone call and the sending of an email to facilitate the departure process for his children, without having the necessary permission to carry out said procedure.
The Attorney General’s Office considers that this behavior could constitute a serious offense committed through fraud., by allegedly violating the principles of morality and equality. Therefore, he has provisionally qualified the former minister’s conduct as unlawful and substantially reprehensible.

The alleged improper actions of Vélez Torres, who held the position of Minister of Mines and Energy, has generated a disciplinary investigation that seeks to clarify the facts and determine the corresponding responsibilities.
The former minister has not yet issued public statements about the accusations made against her by the Attorney General’s Office.
Last year, the Prosecutor’s Unit before the Supreme Court of Justice made the decision to initiate this investigation in response to the irregular events that occurred around the trip of the minister’s son. The Attorney General’s Office had also ruled on the matter, ordering the opening of a prior investigation into the alleged irregular use of her position by Vélez to influence a Colombian Migration agent.
