Rai, Cdm ok to the guidelines for the new service contract

The Council of Ministers approved the preliminary guideline for the agreement between the Authority for Communications Guarantees (AGCOM) and the Minister of Economic Development on the RAI service contract.
The new service contract 2023-2028 must, as a matter of priority:
– indicate obligations and commitments, guaranteeing and safeguarding economic sustainability, corporate efficiency and rationalization of spending;
– redefine the mission of the public service, in a multi-year perspective, according to the principles of relevance, inclusiveness, sustainability and credibility;
– introduce measurable objectives and strengthen the methods, tools and bodies for verifying the achievement of the objectives.
The contract must ensure, at least, the achievement of the following strategic objectives:
– accelerate the transformation of RAI into a digital media company;
– increase the quality of information;
– attract and retain young audiences, also through the development of the Raiplay platform;
– enhance the role of women in society and at work;
– to transmit and promote cultural and civil values ​​in Italy and in the world, in particular the culture of business and work;
– enhance the Italian landscape and cultural uniqueness;
– spreading and encouraging sport and healthy lifestyles;
– promote knowledge of the new challenges of the environmental and digital transition;
– strengthen accessibility and inclusiveness and spread a national culture of disabilities;
– support the development of the national audiovisual industry;
– strengthen the role and technological evolution of the public radio service;
– optimize the transmission capacity and coverage level of the RAI networks.
– guarantee objective, truthful, pluralistic and complete information, also through the fight against disinformation;
– allocate all extraordinary revenues (such as those deriving from the possible enhancement of Raiway) to public service activities;
– rationalize spending.
