Seeking to contribute to the resocialization process of people deprived of liberty, Cormacarena, together with the National Army, delivered 250 pieces of fine wood to the inmates of the Villavicencio Penitentiary and Prison Center who wish to venture into crafts and handicrafts.
Among the wood that was delivered is cachicamo, cedar, saladillo and balso, which is very useful for producing higher quality work and thus being able to be marketed in the local market.
For her part, Patricia Baquero Torres, deputy director of Environmental Management at Cormacarena, expressed during the delivery that, “this is a contribution that will allow them to have a good use, improving the conditions and social fabric of the inmates. In addition, the Corporation will continue to carry out these social tasks.”
The prison currently has a craft production project called ‘Woods’, a space that allows inmates to transform different items for the home and souvenirs native to the eastern plains. This social program is aimed at approximately 1,400 people deprived of liberty, which allows them to occupy their free time, awaken their skills in some activity, generate economic income and achieve a reduction in their sentence.
“Among the many elements that this population produces in prison are shelves, coat racks, spoon holders, mirrors and artistic paintings, which can be used in any home and can be easily sold to the public,” said the director of the prison Sandra Milena Dima.
