Roberto Snaidero explains the reasons for the split in Confindustria: “Neglected SMEs, this is the president’s mistake”

UDINE. “Rules are rules and as such they must be respected. It is a principle that I have always strictly adhered to, even at the top of Federlegno Arredo ». As an external observer of the events of Confindustria Udine, Roberto Snaidero – former president of Federlegno Arredo – is primarily concerned with establishing a principle: “Majority or not, if the rules say that to be confirmed it takes 80% of the votes in the council, take note of it and move on ».

Without prejudice to the principle, did you expect such a blitz?

“Certainly not. What I know I read in the newspaper and it seemed very strange to me that it was possible to pass from an almost Bulgarian consensus for the president Anna Mareschi Danieli to this situation. For more within a few months. Something must have happened. ‘

What do you think?

“Not sitting on the council I cannot say for sure but the impression I have is that the president has paid for the discontent of a part of the base which in recent years has felt poorly represented.”

Who are you referring to?

«To small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the backbone of the Friulian economy. With the exception of ten large companies, all of our companies are small. Here, perhaps a solid connection with the base was missing. And I say this as Anna’s supporter ».

That means?

“That in 2017, when she was elected, I spent myself personally, supporting her qualities with friends who sat on the council”.

Advice well spent?

«I really appreciate what Mareschi Danieli has done in these 4 years, but I repeat, 90% of the members of Confindustria Udine are small businesses, which need to be involved, guided and taken into consideration».

Do you think that the events of the regional Confindustria may have influenced the debacle?

«I think that not being able to find a solution together with the other territories was a mistake because it cut off the Friulian industrialists from national representation. Veneto counts more than one of its members in the national council of Confindustria. We? Nothing”.

It must be said that regionalization has been talked about for years …

«It is talked about and not done. After all, the game is complex. It is not easy to put different souls together. But the divisions, I think of the ones that have held court for a long time between Udine and Pordenone, do not benefit anyone. Not at the top and not even at the bottom. We are small and only together, building critical mass, can we think we count for something ».

Given the delicate situation that has arisen, what profile should the future president of Confindustria have in your opinion?

«He must be a person capable of aggregating, of mending the tear that was highlighted during the last council. A person who knows how to aggregate the base, keep large and small companies together. And finally, that it lead the Friulian Confindustria towards that regionalization process that we can no longer postpone. Let’s remember, without wishing to diminish our wonderful Friuli, that we are in Udine, not in Milan and that if we want to count we have to be a team “
