Ruby Gillman – The Girl with Tentacles, an animated film that pits Kraken against Sirens, arrives on first TV this evening on Sky Cinema Family and streaming on NOW.

Animated film directed by the Oscar nominee Kirk Demicco, reinterprets the role of hero and villain by proposing as the protagonist a young Kraken equipped with tentacles and extraordinary abilities who will have to counteract the vanity of a mermaid. Premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the animated film arrived in Italian cinemas in July 2023.

Ruby Gillman she is a 15 year old girl who lives in the seaside town of Oceanside with her family. Her mother, overprotective, has imposed an important ban on her: never go near the ocean. Ruby simply wants to live her life like all teenagers her age. It’s a shame that the arrival of Chelsea, a famous influencer with long red hair, jeopardizes her life plans. Ruby is a sweet, clumsy and naive girl who wants to fit in with her peers, but every day she feels that she is extremely invisible in everyone’s eyes. As prom approaches, Ruby decides to break the only rule her mother imposed. The dance takes place on board a ship, which is why the girl would not be allowed to participate. And by breaking the rule she will discover a great truth about herself. Ruby is actually a young Kraken, also powerful, a direct descendant of the warrior queens and heir to the throne of her grandmother, the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas. How does he discover all this? Simply by falling into the water and thus triggering her transformation.
What the grandmother will tell Ruby is incredible: the Kraken are creatures that populate the seas and whose task is to protect the ocean from the vanity of the mermaids, ambitious creatures and sworn enemies. And it seems that the popular Chelsea, who recently arrived at the school, is quite the mermaid. Ruby will be forced to become aware of the new truths that have emerged and at the same time learn to manage her powers in time to counter a new threat. Chelsea, in fact, will not sit still and wait. Co-directed by Faryn Pearlthus marking her directorial debut, Ruby Gillman: The Girl with Tentacles features several stars in the original cast including Jane Fonda, Lana Condor, Toni Collette e Annie Murphy.
