He also reiterated this outside the church, recalling how Saviane was «one of the most present, hardworking and most concrete colleagues I had, among the least quarrelsome and least talkative. In the Senate we have a good group and we have always understood each other on the issues of the mountains, the environment, agriculture, the protection of local communities and autonomy. We have always spoken the same language, ”he added.
THE RELATIONSHIP WITH ZAIA
The leader of the League had been close to the family in the last week, after the surgery that precipitated the situation, and he did not want to miss the funeral to pay homage to a person who had been able to give so much to the party, even in his own parliamentary activity.
He attended the funeral in the church, sitting in the same pew that was intended for the president of Veneto Luca Zaia. Arriving in Puos shortly before the funeral began, Zaia immediately went to the church and settled in his place.
Relations with Salvini were cordial: the two exchanged a few words before the start of the celebration and left the church together, talking and greeting each other with a handshake.
NO FLAG
Yesterday’s was a simple ceremony, without party flags exactly as Saviane would have wanted, they say from the party secretariat, and with many citizens as evidence of the affection that the territory had for the senator.
“Paolo knew how to weave relationships that went beyond sharing a party and today’s ceremony was a demonstration of this,” Franco Gidoni, provincial coordinator of the Belluno League, said a few hours after the end of the funeral. “The authorities were not present out of duty, but precisely out of a bond they had created over the years with Saviane,” Gidoni continues.
“Almost nobody knew about Salvini’s arrival until the end,” he adds. «A senator drove 400 kilometers to be present, he cared because he shared the battles in favor of the mountains with Paolo. We will miss him a lot, but his projects will not be lost ».
To remember Paolo Saviane, the Belluno League will have a mass celebrated in memory of him on September 20, one month after his untimely death.A.F.
