Mayors’ procession and April 25th, debate between De Luca and Piantedosi – News

The war in the Middle East, on 25 April, the management of public order on the occasion of the demonstration of the mayors of Campania in Rome last 16 February, the differentiated autonomy and the lack of agreement between the government and the Campania Region on cohesion funds: they are the issues on which a back-and-forth was staged, composed but with no holds barred, between the governor of Campania Vincenzo De Luca and the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi. The squabble on the occasion of the conference promoted by the Prefecture of Naples on the city.

On 25 April De Luca commented on the expression used yesterday by the Prime Minister: “Saying that the end of fascism laid the foundations of democracy is a somewhat feeble expression, like saying that the end of the rain lays the foundations for the closing of the umbrellas. Until we pay homage to those who died for freedom, Liberation will not be a common heritage”. “I think I am among the few who can say – Piantedosi’s reply – that I am anti-fascist, anti-communist and anti-totalitarian. I don’t know how many can say it. I notice that promptly on April 25th there are those who think of giving lessons to others”. Another battleground was the demonstration of the mayors led by De Luca under the buildings of power in Rome on 16 February. “We must together try to overcome the critical issues, I wanted to do it on February 16th but the ministries were all closed not to mention the police checks on the demonstrators’ buses as if we were ISIS…” De Luca’s provocation.

“Perhaps that meeting could have been agreed upon – the reply of the owner of the Interior Ministry – given that I was giving evidence that day in Palermo, this is usually how it is done”. “You were informed for a week – De Luca said in return -. When 550 mayors arrive they have the right to walk in a democratic country”.

Piantedosi’s rejoinder is clear: “President, I suggest you avoid stating these things, otherwise there will be some mayor who will present himself before the Region and then I really want to see what his opinion will be on the matter”. The last word is De Luca’s: “Mayors can come to me whenever they want, only criminals can’t.”
