Open VLD’s proposals to abolish automatic wage indexation and make drastic savings on people’s healthcare have little understanding from CD&V chairman Sammy Mahdi.

“Limiting wage indexation to net wages and cutting back on gross wages is detrimental to the purchasing power of working people. After all, lower gross wages by definition mean lower holiday pay, a lower thirteenth month and a lower pension for many employees. What Open VLD does is nothing less than saving on the income of people who work in a hidden way,” says Sammy Mahdi.

Structurally reducing the growth standard to 1.5% is also a saving that the patient will feel in their daily care, according to the CD&V chairman. “It is incomprehensible that Open VLD seeks money from both the patient and our working middle class and not from the strongest shoulders. Last year, during the negotiations for a tax reform, the Liberals put on the brakes on an increase in the securities tax from 0.15% to 0.30% for a securities account of 1 million euros.”

“The Open VLD is clearly only for the rich in this country. As a warm people’s party, we will continue to oppose that dark blue vision,” concludes Sammy Mahdi.
