The Islamist terror militia Al-Shabaab has attacked three strategically important neighborhoods in the Somali capital Mogadishu. Shells exploded last night in the Bondhere district, where the residence of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre is located. Mohamed Dahir, a senior police official, said. So far there have been no reports of fatalities.
Two shells also damaged a police building in the Abdiasis district, which is in close proximity to the presidential palace, Dahir said. At least four police officers were injured. In Shibis district, another shell struck near the headquarters of the Intelligence and Security Service. The police have launched a large-scale search for the perpetrators.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack. The terrorist group has been carrying out attacks in the country with 18 million inhabitants in the Horn of Africa for years. The attacks mainly target members of the government, police and military facilities, as well as hotels and restaurants frequented by prominent business people and foreigners.
