Sassari, subtracts 150 thousand euros from an elderly doctor: former carabiniere on trial

by admin

The man accused of the scam is a 55-year-old Sassari. The victim’s children had turned to the financial police

SASSARI. He had managed to gain the trust of an elderly doctor, suffering from neurological diseases, by boasting of belonging to the police force and the availability of money and securities. He had also made the 80-year-old professional believe that he owned prestigious homes on the Costa Smeralda and numerous master paintings, presenting him with false documentation to steal his good faith. In this way Paolo Diego Augias, 53 years old from Sassari, former carabiniere, would have managed – according to the accusations – to be delivered by the doctor about 150 thousand euros.

After the report of the family members, the Public Prosecutor’s Office had opened an investigation for fraud. Yesterday morning the judge of the preliminary hearing Antonello Spanu indicted the former soldier, defended by the lawyer Claudio Mastandrea, with the even more serious charge of circumvention of incapacity. In mid-November the man will have to go to court for the first hearing of the trial before judge Giulia Tronci. In the event of a conviction, he risks a penalty of a minimum of two to a maximum of six years.
