Self-care to prevent respiratory infections

In response to the Joint Communiqué of the Pan American Health Organization and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Health authorities of Huila called on the community to reinforce self-care measures to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses.

Sergio Mauricio Zúñiga Ramírez, Secretary of Departmental Health, highlighted the importance of four key recommendations to face the alerts due to the increase in respiratory viruses. First of all, urged the population to complete the vaccination schedule against Covid-19, remembering that the department of Huila has 7,500 doses for this purpose.

The call was especially extended to the young population over 18 years of age with comorbiditiespeople over 60 years of age and human health talent, inviting them to prioritize the completeness of their vaccination schedules.

Huila also has 12,000 doses of influenza vaccines, intended for specific groups such as pregnant women, health personnel, adults over 60 years of age and those with underlying diseases.

«In the event of any respiratory symptoms, we ask Huilenses to follow the self-care protocolssuch as frequent hand washing, the use of face masks and physical distancing to prevent the spread of viruses,” stressed Zúñiga Ramírez.

He emphasized the importance of seeking immediate medical attention for serious symptoms of acute respiratory infection, especially in higher risk groups, such as children under two years of age, older adults, pregnant or postpartum women, people with chronic lung diseases, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease, diabetes mellitus, neurological conditions and people with morbid obesity.

The Departmental Health Secretariat calls for individual and collective responsibility to strengthen defenses against possible respiratory outbreaks and ensure the health of the Huila community.
